JOB OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for maintaining and executing the company’s accounting and internal control functions.  Supervises all transactions related to general ledger, payables, tax payments, revenue recognition and prepaid expenses.  Aids senior accounting and finance management of company in department planning and results management.  Supervises other members of the accounting team in the company’s monthly close and accounts payable functions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead the full cycle accounting month-end close process, including review of journal entries and account reconciliations, as well as monthly and quarterly financial reports for Axium ULC
  • Review AP activities (ACH payments in both USD and CAD and credit card reconciliations) and ensure sufficient funding at bank
  • Review payroll schedules to ensure accuracy of payroll processing, including termination calculation, bonus and commission payout, T4 reconciliation for year-end, payroll GL entries etc.
  • Review quarterly SOX testing
  • Complete HFM roll forwards for month end and footnotes and QDC list for quarter end
  • Work with HS Canada Controller, and corporate HS tax department on monthly/quarterly tax entries and reporting
  • Prepare support documents and coordinate with HS Canada Controller and BDO (external auditors) on the annual tax returns and transfer pricing study
  • Work with HS corporate accounting team and accounting team at HSOne on the intercompany transactions during month end
  • Mentor and supervise a team of two accountants
  • Other tasks and accounting items for HSOne as needed

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 

  • Experience in Canadian accounting a plus
  • Experience in Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of HFM and Great Plains or comparable financial systems
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Strong ability to understand and communicate financial concepts
  • Accounting degree required
  • CA or CPA a plus

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Typically 7 or more years of increasing responsibility and complexity in terms of any applicable professional experience; first-level manager.
  • Typically a Bachelor's Degree or global equivalent in related discipline. Master's degree or global equivalent a plus.
