Position Description

SUMMARY
The job of "parcel assistant" consists primarily of unloading and stacking small packages. This position can rotate in several different areas and positions including loading, unloading, scanning, QA, forklift, switcher, etc.  This is a part-time position.
 
Work assignments can include lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling packages up to 70 pounds in weight.  Work assignments require reading labels, charts, verifying numbers, memorization and carrying out instructions and working rapidly for long periods of time.
 
Most work is done manually, without the use of fork trucks, pallet jacks or other mechanized equipment.  "Hand-to-surface" methods are mandatory.
 
Basic tools and equipment used for various positions in a hub: 
  • Pallets
  • Scanners/Computers
  • Hand Wrap (to secure parcels the pallets)
  • Labels/Postal Flags
  • Pallet Jacks
  • Load Charts
  • Crayons
 
Due to the strenuous nature of the job, applicants must be at least eighteen years of age and should preferably have some background in manual labor.
 
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Unload and load trucks by hand

  • Scan parcels

  • Induct parcels onto sorter by size

  • Lift, push, and stack parcels

  • Wrap, label, and move skids

  • Process parcels and create mailing containers

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION

 

  • High School Diploma or  GED required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
     

 
 

EXPERIENCE

 

  • Entry-level position

 
 

TECHNICAL SKILLS

 

  • Good communications skills

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds consecutively

  • Experience working in a transportation/warehouse environment
